(this is over a thousand words, sorry I got carried away)
Korra was strong enough to walk now, but still tired easily and never left the island. She hated to admit it and never said a word of complaint, but she still wore dark circles under the eyes and her attention often drifted. She tried to put on a brave face for the kids and her friends, but Mako knew her heart wasn’t in it.
And he missed her heart. His heart missed hers.
"We’re going into the city today," he told her one morning. He found her in the meditation pavilion - she spent a lot of time there lately.
"Why?" She sounded almost back to normal, but her pale blue eyes were just so tired.
Mako stuffed his hands in his pockets. “I thought it might be fun. I’ll even treat you to some noodles.”
'What, like a date?' he wanted her to say, to tease him like she used to. Instead she pressed her lips together, considering.
I know she’s supposed to be holidng the books but here’s a sketchy of your New Ceremony scene.
Imagine Korra and Mako going to trivia night at some new bar & restaurant in downtown Republic City
Korra sucks so bad at trivia. None of these questions concern traditional air nomad culture or earthbending techniques. She knows the name of every single Avatar and she could list the ingredients in the ink used to tattoo airbenders but the stupid game runner is asking questions about pro-bending stats, cabaret singers, and upcoming mover stars. What the fuck. She doesn’t know any of these questions. Why didn’t the white lotus school in her in the ways of upcoming popular culture
Mako on the other hand loves it. Those months spent selling and reading the newspapers is really paying off because he knows all the answers. Who was the founding member of the Triple Threats? They called her Ting the Terror. Most popular Satomobile? Simply named the Model A. First all girls probending team? The Raven Eagles. Korra could kick his ass a million times over but she can’t beat him at trivia and he loves it.
i was social tonight and got chocolate covered strawberries and chatted with a cool guy for like a half hour. thanks, universe. you did good.
that’s a really great way of putting it. you can definitely see where people got that idea, but even in book 1, where tenzin played much more of a mentor role to korra, it was pretty clear he was stuck in a rut of his own as well and his relationship with korra was going to change that. korra wound up becoming her own mentor, in a sense, and tenzin almost more of the student than she was. fans who kept clinging to the past with tenzin sadly didn’t have quite the development that he did, but i like the phrasing of people expecting it to go in one direction and calling “bad writing” when it just took a different turn from what they thought it would.
it’s much better writing they way it actually happened ;)
I’m just thinking about my body and all the mustaches I have in the present.

Good times, man
I just had a really dumb or possibly brilliant idea on who to put in Caleb’s spot.
Who remembers Howl?
His friends are dead, his girlfriend is dead, he is going to spend the rest of his life locked up, and he has a sock in his mouth.
I am quite satisfied with his fate.
